Best forHomes with an attic or crawlspace and a duct run too long for a slim unit.

Overview

The ARUH12KUAS is Fujitsu's mid-static ducted unit and the one to choose when the duct run is more than a few feet. It handles up to 0.8 inWG of external static pressure, rates 19.1 SEER2, 12.7 EER2 and 10.5 HSPF2, and lists 13,600 BTU of cooling and 19,400 BTU of heating. The body is 11-13/16 inches wide, 27-9/16 deep and 27-9/16 tall, and weighs 66 lb, so it is far deeper than a slim duct and needs real space. Wi-Fi needs an optional Airstage accessory. At about $3,350 it is roughly $450 below Mitsubishi's PEAD-AA12NL system with a higher HSPF2 (10.5 against 8.7), though Mitsubishi's dealer network is wider.

  • Up to 0.8 inWG static
  • About $450 under the Mitsubishi PEAD

Cold-weather output

At 5°F it still makes 97% of its rated heat, according to the certified NEEP listing for this pairing. Fujitsu General rates it to keep running down to -5°F.

  • +19,400 BTU heating

Catches

  • −27-9/16 in tall body, not a shallow-soffit unit
  • −Wi-Fi is optional

Questions buyers ask

Where can a mid-static ducted unit go?+

The body is 27-9/16 inches tall, so it needs an attic, crawlspace or deep soffit. Ducting is sheet-metal work.

Does it heat well in cold weather?+

NEEP lists 16,000 BTU at 47°F and 15,500 BTU at 5°F, about 97%, with COP 2.02. HSPF2 is 10.5 and the maker's floor is -5°F.

How is it different from the Mitsubishi slim duct?+

The Fujitsu is $3,345 against $2,747 for the Mitsubishi SEZ-AD12NL, much taller, and keeps far more capacity at 5°F (15,500 BTU against 7,800). The Mitsubishi fits a shallow soffit.

What does Fujitsu's warranty on the ducted unit require?+

Fujitsu's base term is 5 years on parts and 7 on the compressor. A licensed-contractor install registered online within 60 days raises it to 10 years on both, and a Fujitsu Elite contractor install to 12, so a self-install gives up the longer coverage.
