Best forSmall, cold bedrooms and offices where one 9k head has to be the main heat.
This is LG's R-32 cold-climate wall unit, sold under the Art Cool Deluxe name with the LGRED Core compressor package. The 9k pair is rated 27 SEER2 and 13.5 HSPF2, and LG publishes operation down to -31°F, which puts it in the same conversation as Mitsubishi's FX and Daikin's Aurora rather than the Standard and Mega lines LG also sells. The outdoor unit carries a base pan heater as standard. At about $2,000 for the pair it costs roughly twice what an LG Mega 9k does and less than a Mitsubishi FX09. The catch is size: nine thousand BTU is a bedroom or a small office, so the cold-weather headroom matters most where the load really is that small. Wi-Fi works through LG's ThinQ app.
At 5°F it makes more heat than its 47°F rating (109%), according to the certified NEEP listing for this pairing. LG rates it to keep running down to -31°F.
Pairing: KUSAL091A with KNSAL091A. Checked October 8, 2026 on NEEP's ccASHP list; a different head or condenser posts different numbers.
It is listed for about 350 sq ft, which suits a bedroom, nursery or small office. NEEP certifies 11,000 BTU of heating at 47°F, so it has a little more heating than the nameplate suggests. It is not meant for an open living area.
NEEP certifies a maximum of 12,000 BTU at 5°F with a COP of 2.04. That is above the 47°F figure of 11,000 BTU, so output does not fall off in the cold. LG publishes operation down to -31°F.
The 10-year warranty is conditional on a licensed installer and registration within 60 days, so a DIY install risks the coverage. The line set is not in the box; 15 to 50 ft sets are sold separately. The unit is pre-charged for a 24.6 ft run.
R-32 is rated A2L, meaning mildly flammable. The practical step is choosing an installer trained to handle it. LG lists it as built for R-32 from the factory.
At about $2,017 it costs roughly twice the LG Mega 9k at $1,143 and less than a Mitsubishi FX09. The extra money buys 27 SEER2 against the Mega's 21, and heating rated to -31°F instead of 5°F. If winters stay above 5°F the Mega is the cheaper way to heat the same room.
