Overview

The top of Gree's four-zone R-32 range puts 36,000 BTU of heating on the wall for four rooms. AHRI-certified at 21.0 SEER2 and 10.0 HSPF2 with non-ducted heads, it is rated to -22°F, and NEEP lists a full 36,000 BTU/h at 5°F, the same as at 47°F. The package with three 9k and one 12k Livo head sells for about $6,942. The condenser alone sells for under $3,100 at one retailer, so the heads are most of the bill, which is why the bundle costs about $2,800 more than Pioneer's four-zone with similar heads. What the extra money buys is a 7-year compressor warranty, a wider choice of head types and a bigger dealer base.

  • 36,000 BTU/h at 5°F (NEEP)
  • 7-year compressor warranty
  • Up to 263 ft total line length

Cold-weather output

At 5°F it still makes its full 47°F rated heat, according to the certified NEEP listing for this pairing. Gree rates it to keep running down to -22°F.

Strengths and catches

Strengths

  • +NEEP lists no loss at 5°F: 36,000 BTU/h against 36,000 at 47°F
  • +131 ft precharge and up to 263 ft total line length
  • +7-year compressor / 5-year parts with registration

Catches

  • −About $6,942 for the package, nearly $2,800 above the Pioneer four-zone
  • −Four heads total 39,000 BTU on a 36,000 BTU condenser, so heads run below nameplate when all call together
  • −One condenser fault takes out all four rooms
  • −Larger breaker and wire run than a smaller multi

Questions buyers ask

Is the 4-zone Gree Multi21+ better than the 3-zone?+

It adds a fourth 9k head and costs $6,942 against $5,058. Both are 21.0 SEER2 and 10.0 HSPF2. The 4-zone is for homes where four separate rooms need independent control.

Does it hold output in winter?+

NEEP lists 36,000 BTU at 47°F and still 36,000 BTU at 5°F, with COP 2.1, and Gree rates it to -22°F. That makes it strong as a primary heat source for a four-room layout.

How hard is the installation?+

Four runs of flared lines and a vacuum pull each make it a full-day contractor job. The condenser is precharged for 131 ft, with up to 263 ft total and 82 ft to the furthest head.
