The Mega 18k is 21 SEER2 and 9.4 HSPF2 (AHRI 214931161), 18,000 BTU cooling and 19,000 BTU heating, for about $1,838. That is $921 less than the High Efficiency 18k at $2,759 for a 2-point SEER2 and 0.6 HSPF2 difference; the High Efficiency is rated to heat down to -4°F and the Mega to 5°F. The outdoor unit makes 55 dBA and the indoor 32 to 48 dBA. Dealer listings state 800 to 1,000 sq ft. It is a reasonable open-plan unit for a mild climate. For the same money in a cold one, a Pioneer or Senville with a published low-temperature curve may do better, though they carry shorter warranties.
No current listing on NEEP's cold-climate heat pump list (checked October 8, 2026). LG rates it to keep running down to 5°F; without a listing there's no certified 5°F capacity figure to check that claim against.
Dealer listings state 800 to 1,000 sq ft and LG's listing gives about 900. It is rated 18,000 BTU cooling and 19,000 BTU heating, a fit for an open-plan living area.
The outdoor unit runs at 55 dBA and the indoor unit at 32 to 48 dBA. That is louder than the 9k and 12k LG units, so avoid mounting the outdoor unit under a bedroom window.
No certified 5°F figure is published for this model, and the stated heating limit is 5°F. That fits mild and moderate climates. Colder regions should look at LG's LGRED line or a unit with a published low-temperature curve.
The Mega is $1,838 against $2,759, a gap of $921. The High Efficiency gains about 2 points of SEER2 and 0.6 of HSPF2. The High Efficiency is rated to heat down to -4°F against the Mega's 5°F, a small difference that rarely changes the choice.
