Overview

Daikin's four-way cassette comes as a three-part set: the FFA indoor unit, the BYFQ60C3W2W decorative panel and the RXV outdoor unit. The panel lets installers set two-, three- or four-way discharge, which is handy for a room with a corner wall. This 12k pairing rates 19.5 SEER2, 11.5 EER2 and 9.0 HSPF2 on R-32, with 13,300 BTU of cooling and 16,800 BTU of heating. Heating stops at 5°F, so it is not a cold-climate unit. The 12k set is listed at $3,427, more than the 15k set at $3,098, so price both sizes before choosing.

  • 2-, 3- or 4-way discharge
  • Panel included in the set price

Cold-weather output

At 5°F it still makes 70% of its rated heat, according to the certified NEEP listing for this pairing. Daikin rates it to keep running down to 5°F.

Questions buyers ask

What does the Daikin 12k four-way cassette need to install?+

A 22-5/8 inch square body, the BYFQ60C3W2W panel, and a condensate path. The lineset is 1/4 x 3/8 inch to 66 ft.

Is it any good for cold winters?+

Weak. NEEP lists 13,500 BTU at 47°F and 9,500 BTU at 5°F, about 70%, with COP 1.8. The maker's floor is 5°F and HSPF2 is 9.

Should I buy the 12k, 15k or 18k Daikin cassette?+

Price them together. The 15k set is listed at $3,098, below this 12k at $3,427, and heats more at 5°F (11,400 BTU against 9,500). Unless the room is small enough that a 15k would short-cycle, the 15k is the better buy.

How long is Daikin's warranty on the cassette?+

Daikin gives a 12-year limited parts warranty when the system is registered online within 60 days of installation. It covers parts, not labor, so ask the installer what their own labor guarantee covers.
