Overview

The 24,000 BTU Orion XLTH is the largest cold-climate wall unit Fujitsu sells. It rates 24 SEER2 and 11.9 HSPF2, publishes 28,900 BTU cooling and 36,800 BTU heating at maximum, and keeps heating to -15°F. It is the version for a 900-plus sq ft open floor or a bonus room or garage conversion. Cost is the issue: about $4,560 for equipment alone. That is about $250 under the Mitsubishi GX24 ($4,815), and the Fujitsu has the better HSPF2, but it is far above a mainstream 24k from LG or Gree. The lineset is 3/8 x 5/8 inch, bigger than the smaller sizes, and both units need a 20A 208/230V circuit.

Questions buyers ask

What size space is the Fujitsu XLTH 24k for?+

It is listed for about 960 sq ft, a big open floor or a small whole house. NEEP certifies 25,200 BTU at 47°F, so it delivers slightly more heat than its label. Check the room's load rather than the floor area alone.

Does it keep its capacity at 5°F?+

Yes, NEEP certifies 25,800 BTU at 5°F with a COP of 2.06, almost flat from its 47°F figure. Fujitsu rates operation down to -15°F. That makes it a real cold-climate option.

How does it compare to the Mitsubishi FX24 and GX24?+

At about $4,559 it is cheaper than the FX24 (about $4,997) and GX24 (about $4,815). Its 24 SEER2 and 11.9 HSPF2 beat both on paper, and its 25,800 BTU at 5°F is close to the FX24's 26,600. The Mitsubishis go to -22°F and include Wi-Fi.

Is the 12-year warranty automatic?+

No. Base is 5 years parts and 7 years compressor. Registration within 60 days gets 10 years, and 12 years requires an Elite contractor install.
