Best forA garage, workshop or mild-climate living room where the lowest price for a self-installed 18k matters more than winter output.
MRCOOL's Easy Pro is the value tier under its DIY series, and the 18k is the middle size: a 230V single-zone heat pump with a precharged Quick Connect lineset and no vacuum work. This is the newer EZPRO-18-HP-23011DE version with an 11.5 ft lineset where earlier kits shipped 16 ft, and in exchange MRCOOL now lists a 5-year compressor and 3-year parts term. Certified efficiency is 20.0 SEER2 and 8.5 HSPF2. The NEEP entry shows what that means in winter: 9,800 BTU/h at 5°F from an 18,000 BTU/h rating, about 54%, and the listing is not an Energy Star cold-climate one. MRCOOL's DIY 5th Gen 18k costs more and is built for colder climates; the Easy Pro is the pick for a garage, shop or mild-winter living space where purchase price matters most.
At 5°F it still makes 54% of its rated heat, according to the certified NEEP listing for this pairing. MRCOOL rates it to keep running down to -13°F.
Pairing: EZPRO-18-HP-C-23011DE-O with EZPRO-18-HP-WMAH-230DE-O. Checked October 8, 2026 on NEEP's ccASHP list; a different head or condenser posts different numbers.
Yes. The 11.5 ft Quick Connect lineset is precharged with R-454B, so no vacuum pump or gauges. Because precharged sets cannot be extended, the condenser has to sit just outside the wall the head is on.
Only with caution. NEEP lists 18,000 BTU at 47°F but 9,800 BTU at 5°F, about 54%, with COP 1.8, and it is not ENERGY STAR cold climate. MRCOOL rates it to -13°F, but capacity at that point is much lower than nameplate.
MRCOOL DIY Direct's current listing shows 5-year compressor and 3-year parts. Earlier Easy Pro kits and some resellers list shorter terms, so check the page you buy from.
The Easy Pro is $143 cheaper at $1,806 but has an 11.5 ft lineset, a 9,800 BTU output at 5°F and 3-year parts coverage. The Perfect Aire at $1,949 holds 18,000 BTU at 5°F and has 7-year coverage. Pick the Easy Pro for mild climates.
